Asia Broadcast Satellite Chooses Newtec as Standard Supplier to Power Range of Applications

Newtec’s high-order DVB-S2 based modulation solutions result in significantly reduced bandwidth requirements for Asia Broadcast Satellite

Newtec announced today that Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) is working with Newtec to optimize their point-to-point transmissions services via satellite. In addition to the existing IP platforms, already using Newtec’s proven DVB-S2 technology, ABS chose to deal again for their broadcast platform.

Using Newtec’s DVB-S2 modulator and demodulator technology, Asia Broadcast Satellite’s customers can transport live video content from their studios and live events directly to ABS gateway teleports efficiently and reliably. These live video contribution feeds are then multiplexed, encrypted and uplinked to full transponder MCPC platforms on ABS-1 for Pay TV distribution and DTH broadcasting. Customers benefit from lower bandwidth and power requirements, flexible transmission options and significant cost savings over international fibre – as well as getting access to the extensive coverage of the ABS-1 satellite.

Newtec’s integrated high-order DVB-S2 modulation solution consists of Newtec’s Azimuth Broadcast satellite modulator, the AZ110, and a demodulator, the AZ910, in full compliance with the DVB standards for guaranteed interoperability.

Tom Choi, CEO, of Asia Broadcast Satellite said: “We are delighted to be using Newtec’s high order modulation and bandwidth compression technologies. The capabilities of the DVB-S2 modulators and demodulators fit perfectly with ABS’s performance, delivering maximum efficiency with minimum bandwidth. We recognise Newtec as the industry leader providing solutions for lower operational cost, efficiency, flexibility and reliability. With Newtec’s DVB-S2 modulation solutions our broadcast service compares favourably with international fibre”.

Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec said: “ABS is Asia’s most valued and premium satellite operator. We are proud that ABS has selected us and continues to use our products and applications. This is in addition to ongoing partnerships such as IP projects in Africa in which ABS is operating with the latest modems and the superior TelliNet product for TCP acceleration. We look forward to seeing our technology being used by many more ABS customers in the very near future.”
